We agree with the value in building up your personal and professional network over time.
First rule: this needs to be genuine otherwise people will opt out of your network. Real relationships take time and are based on various interactions that are consistent with good intention, and (importantly!) are mutually beneficial.
Second rule: don’t abuse your relationships you took the time and effort to build. Genuine relationships, the lasting ones, stay connected because they trust you. Don’t sell them something they don’t need. You want them to support you and in return their lives need to be better for it! Don’t mix charity and relationships, it dilutes the strength of the connection. What’s more, it’s not sustainable for business, if they really do benefit from your product or service, they, like any customer, will return.
